Admission to IIT Madras BSc Data Science Program: Now Open to Class XI and XII Students – India Education | Latest Education News | World Education News

CHENNAI: Admissions to the Programming and Data Science Program at Indian Institute of Technology Madras is now open to students of Class XI and XII. Students, working professionals and those taking a career break are also welcome to apply.

The Institute is calling for applications for the May 2022 session of this pioneering program, which is a one-of-a-kind initiative launched in 2020.

In an effort to relieve students by giving them the opportunity to gain admission into IIT Madras during their studies, IIT Madras now allows students as early as Class XI to apply for the qualification process. Students who complete Class XI by May 2022 or those currently in Class XII can apply for the May 2022 term qualification process and if they qualify, they can start classes after completing their Class XII.

There is no limit to the number of places and therefore any qualified person can participate in the program. Learners eligible for the JEE Advanced 2021 exam can directly join this BSc program in May 2022.

The last date to apply for the May term of this data science program is April 20, 2022. Interested students can apply through the website – https://onlinedegree.iitm.ac.in.

Highlighting the changes in the application process, Prof. Andrew Thangaraj, Lead Professor, BSc in Programming and Data Science, IIT Madras, said: “Through this program, we want to ensure that a high-quality education is accessible to anyone who dreams of studying at an IIT or pursuing a career in programming and data science. This program, we hope, will be a game-changer in the field of education, paving the way for many other large-scale programs that we and other institutes will offer.

Over 60,000 applications have been received for the BSc qualification process so far and currently over 12,500 students from all over India and outside India are pursuing the BSc programme. The diversity of program learners in terms of student age (18-65), role (students from different educational backgrounds – business, arts, science, engineering, management, medicine and law, among others, active different industry sectors) and learners from more than 25 countries is one of the strengths of the program.

Further, Dr. Vignesh Muthuvijayan, Head Professor, BSc in Programming and Data Science, IIT Madras said:The BSc program opens the door to the world of data science and programming where the demand for qualified resources is very high for anyone from any background and age group. This bespoke program now admits students who qualify to write JEE Advanced, offering them the opportunity to fulfill their dream of studying from an IIT and ensuring that their hard work and effort is rewarded.

Scholarships are available for eligible students, making this program affordable for everyone. The program is highly flexible keeping learner convenience in mind, where weekly content is posted on a portal for anytime access, while all exams must be taken in person at designated centers in more from 130 cities across India, which guarantees the credibility of the learning assessment. IIT Madras offers fee waivers of up to 75% based on annual family income, as well as additional scholarships through CSR partners.

The application process includes four weeks of training, which includes video lectures, weekly assignments, a discussion forum, and live interactions with professors and course instructors. Candidates must take the in-person qualifying exam which is based only on these 4 weeks of content and if they achieve more than the minimum threshold, they can join the basic level of BSc in Programming and Data Science.
