Post-graduation projects: Ouellette will work with the Players’ Lounge as a junior software engineer in Brooklyn, New York. His responsibility is to create new software in an agile environment and he constantly focuses on problems that arise to solve them and complete new versions of software.

How HPU helped you get there: “High Point University helped me get to where I am today by teaching from the bottom up, starting with the basic fundamentals. HPU also gave me a variety of options with electives that helped me decide which career path I wanted to follow with my degree.

Most Impactful Mentor at HPU: “Dr. William Suchan, Founding President and Associate Professor of Computer Science, was most impactful to me as he was my teacher in many classes, but also my advisor. He guided me with the courses I wanted to take and knew what those classes were about. He also made it clear that he cared about his students and showed that both in class and by his availability outside of class. He is reassuring and truly believes in his students.

Most memorable moment at HPU: “My most memorable moment was when my group presented our final project for our software engineering course, which was an air traffic control simulator.”

What life skills did HPU help you develop that set you up for long-term success? “I learned the technical information needed to complete interviews where I was asked questions about IT topics, such as software engineer development and coding skills assessments.”

What are the values ​​and virtues that the HPU campus has helped you develop and that you will take with you after graduation? “Some of the values ​​and virtues I learned are how to live on my own and be responsible for myself.”

Hints for subclasses: “My advice for subclasses is to listen and trust your teachers. They have the experience and knowledge to guide you in the right direction when it comes to finding employment after graduation.
