IIT Madras Opens Admission to BSc Data Science Course for Class 11, 12 Students

Students who complete Class 11 by May 2022 or those currently in Class 12 can apply for the May 2022 term qualifying process. The deadline to apply is April 20.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has now opened admission to its BSc Data Science program for students in class 11, 12. Students, working professionals and career breakers are also invited to apply. The last date to apply for the May semester data science program is April 20, 2022. Interested students can apply through the website – onlinedegree.iitm.ac.in.

“In an effort to relieve students by giving them the opportunity to gain admission into IIT Madras during their studies, the institute now allows students as young as Class 11 to apply for the qualification process. Students who complete Class 11 by May 2022 or those currently in Class 12 can apply for the May 2022 qualification process and if they qualify, they can start classes after completing their Class 12,” a said an official statement from IIT Madras.

BSc data science: structure, application process, eligibility criteria

The program is highly flexible keeping learner convenience in mind, where weekly content is posted on a portal for anytime access, while all exams must be taken in person at designated centers in more from 130 cities across India, which guarantees the credibility of the learning assessment.

There is no limit to the number of places and therefore any qualified person can enter the BSc programme. Learners eligible for the JEE Advanced 2021 exam can directly join this bachelor’s degree program in May 2022, he said.

The application process includes four weeks of training, which includes video lectures, weekly assignments, a discussion forum, and live interactions with professors and course instructors. Candidates must take the in-person qualifying exam which is based only on these 4 weeks of content and if they achieve more than the minimum threshold, they can join the basic level of BSc in Programming and Data Science.

BSc Program Highlights

According to the statement from IIT Madras, over 60,000 applications have been received for the BSc qualification process so far and currently over 12,500 students from all over India and outside India are pursuing the BSc program.

IIT Madras also offers scholarships to eligible students. IIT Madras offers fee waivers of up to 75% based on annual household income, as well as additional scholarships through CSR partners.

Highlighting the changes in the application process, Professor Andrew Thangaraj, Head Professor, BSc in Programming and Data Science, IIT Madras, said, “Through this program, we want to ensure that high quality education is accessible to anyone who dreams of studying at an IIT or pursuing a career in programming and data science. This program, we hope, will be a game-changer in the field of education, paving the way for many other large-scale programs that we and other institutes will offer.

Sharing her comments on the overall program experience, Ms. Sayantani Ghosh, undergraduate student, said, “I have benefited greatly from the program so far. The content provided is excellent. It definitely improved my coding skills, allowed me to delve deeper into topics, and increased my problem-solving ability. »
